Contending for the truth

Of all the prophets made mention of in the Old Testament, no other prophet epitomizes the spirit of divergence and the great cost of suffering associated with it like the prophet Jeremiah. We are given a window into his heart and the internal struggles he faced like few others in all of Scripture. 

Key issues of conflict

Apart from this redefined understanding of what it means to be prophetic are several key issues that are at the forefront of this present divergence. There is a completely “new” (in all actuality, it is very ancient) operating system involved that defines both the context and culture for all prophetic activity in the Kingdom. When positioned alongside what is commonly accepted and practiced today, there is an immediate distinction and inevitable hostility that results. 

Throughout the history of the Church, especially during times and seasons of reformation, that which was commonly taught, believed and practiced would go through a process of upgrade and refinement that usually culminated in a departure or divergence from the old religious order or paradigm. The word divergence simply means that there is a distinct separation, departure or moving away from a set course, convention or norm. It is normally characterized by a difference of opinion that ultimately results in the newer opinion deviating from the common path established by the old. Of course, any deviation from that which is conventional or common inevitably leads some (if not most) to believe that this new “opinion” or path is in error. Certainly, a look at Scripture and even Church history itself lends credence to the fact that this is very often the case. However, there is also undeniable proof found throughout these same sources that divergence can often be fueled by the Spirit of God.

This article is a follow-up to the one entitled The Word of the Lord? where we discussed the issue of blind prophets and their use of forbidden practices, such as numerology, in determining the will of God, and for making “prophetic” decrees at the beginning of every calendar year. There are several other false practices and frequencies which we shall seek to expose here, not for the purpose of being overly critical or judgmental of the present prophetic order as it functions currently in Church, but to provoke us to a higher prophetic dimension, frequency and standard that more accurately expresses the very nature and character of Jesus Christ, the Chief Prophet.
